Getting a workout in on vacation or an extended trip is difficult. Often hotel gyms are not up to our standards (at least mine) or we don’t have access to a gym at all. This is often the case when I stay in hostels or rental homes and there isn’t access to a gym. I have written about hood workouts in the past which are also referred to as urban or playground workouts. They are all the same because they are using your body and surroundings for your workout.
Often times I wouldn’t recommend an app for a simple hotel room workout or hood workout but sometimes it is hard to think up body weight routines and motivate yourself without a gym. This is especially true while traveling (for me at least).
I recently discovered the Pushup Warrior app from Martin Rooney. I learned about Rooney a couple years ago from the owner of my local gym who has learned from him and knows him as well. I began following him on facebook and on his blog called Training for Warriors and learned some valuable information. A lot of this stuff you can do at home and on the road without a gym which is awesome.
Rooney has traveled the world learning the pushup variations which will push you to the limit with basic movements that you can do anywhere.
The Pushup Warrior app is great for learning new techniques and pushing yourself when you are traveling.
You can select from easy, medium, and hard when selecting the type of pushup or just spin the wheel for a random selection. There are over 60 workouts and 120 pushup variations to keep you busy and Rooney has included visual aids for any pushup you are unfamiliar with. You can also track your progress and take part in the Warrior Challenge to motivate you along the way.
The App has some of the best reviews I have seen on a fitness app. I am planning on testing it out the next couple weeks when I am in East Africa and my only gym will be the norther plains of Tanzania.
Check it out for yourself in the app store. And if you find you like it you might like his book too. Get Warrior Cardio on Amazon.
