Track Down Your Lost Camera

written by Clint Johnston
Track Down Your Lost Camera

Nothing is worse than losing your expensive camera which is why CameraTrace wants to help. The majority of cameras are lost and not stolen which means CameraTrace will help you to recover your camera and most importantly, all your priceless photos. Even if recovery is a long shot this will increase yours odds of a successful recovery.

Here’s how it works:

For a one time fee of $10, CameraTrace provides a adhesive tag for your camera. This tag enables the finder to return your camera by going to the website on the tag and entering the code from it. This will bring up your contact information and allow you to communicate anonymously. This protects your identity from the finder which is nice. The tags are constructed of a durable metallic material which will ensure the tag lasts as long as your device.

In addition to providing you with the camera tag, CameraTrace also monitors popular image sites such as Flickr and 500px and searches for your exact serial number from a photo and can trace that to your camera using the EXIF tags.

NewImage

How does this work?

“Digital cameras and even smartphones embed data in images in what are called EXIF tags, many digital cameras embed the serial number of the camera along with other data such as shutter speed, flash settings etc. In increasing cases location data is also embedded in the images, particularly smartphones.”

Camera Recovery Assistance:

CameraTrace will assist you in your camera recovery. They step you through the recovery process and will even file a police report for you.

For more information check out CameraTrace.

Check out their FAQ page for a list of supported cameras.
