With gas prices always on the rise and jet fuel constantly driving up flight costs you may want to consider one of these bus companies to get to your next destination within the US. Every summer I travel to visit my in laws on Cape Cod and I take the bus from the airport to Hyannis where they pick me up a the small bus station late in the evening on the last bus of the day. It eliminates evening traffic and makes it easier to leave directly from the airport and is a cheap option for the last leg of my trip.
The bus companies listed below run far more frequently and have quite a good system mapped out for getting you from one location to the next. Although this may take more time, it could be worth saving the cash as you travel home from the holidays or go visit a friend for a long weekend.
If you are looking for cheap travel in the Northeast region check out MegaBus or BoltBus.
MegaBus: megabus.com
Mega Bus does the most locations, largest fleet of buses and is probably most well known. They do offer free wifi on board and seats that recline. Destinations are continually expanding to college towns across the US. A few longer legs are available in the South and the Midwest but most of the services are located on the East Coast.
BoltBus: boltbus.com
Book a ticket in advance on BoltBus for the best deals to and from one location or try the cheaper version from the same parent company: Peter Pan. Peter Pan and Bolt Bus both offer $1 bus rides if you book 21-31 days in advance and claim one of the $1 seats before they are gone. This would be nearly impossible to take advantage of if you are planning to go from NYC to Boston the day before Christmas but you may be able to snag this deal on a less desired vacation day. $1– I’ll take it! Some routes also have express buses that offer group boarding and booking, reserved seating, Wifi, electrical outlets at each seat and no stopping in between destinations.
Busing to and from a destination is not as popular as you move west but one company does offer competitive deals in California.
