The US Airways 100% buy or gift miles bonus is back which means you can buy or gift miles and get up to a 100% bonus until May 25, 2014.
Normally I would not recommend buying miles but the 100% bonus means you are buying miles at 1.88 cents per mile.100,000 miles costs $1,881.25 (with taxes and fees) which is about 1.88 cents per mile. The only way to get this rate is to buy a tier that offers the 100% bonus which starts at 30,000 miles. The lower purchasing tiers only offer a 50% and 75% bonus.
Normally buying miles would cost you about 3.5 cents per mile which is why this bonus might be worth it to some travelers.
Should You Buy the Miles?
You are looking at spending $1,881.25 for 100,000 miles but you should put this in perspective first by taking a look at what you can get on the US Airways Award Chart. You can redeem a business class award flight for 110,000 miles to North Asia. For example, this would include a city like Hong Kong and a business class flight to Hong Kong would run you around $4,000 (this price will vary). After taxes and fees you are looking at saving around $2,000.
So is it worth it for the everyday traveler? Probably not but if you want to book a once in a life time flight and fly business class for a significant discount this is a good deal for you.
It is important to mention you must be a Dividend Miles member for at least 12 days to take advantage of this promotion so sign-up now if you plan to.
