Tips and Tricks to Enjoying Orlando on a Budget

Tips and Tricks to Enjoying Orlando on a Budget

Orlando is consistently ranked one of the most popular U.S. destinations every year. The city draws families from around the world to attractions like World Disney World and Universal Studios. The high number of tourists also means higher prices for accommodations, transportation, entry into the major theme parks, and other vacation-related expenses. Luckily, there are a number of methods to save you money on your trip to Orlando.

Travel During Off-Peak Months

Orlando is a year-round destination, meaning there is no true off-season. However, there are peak periods throughout the year that should be avoided to enjoy the best prices. Avoid traveling while school is out, on long-weekends, and around major holidays, as these dates come with peak accommodation prices and longer lines at theme parks. August is a great time to visit, once kids are back in school.

Look for Deals Offered by Theme Parks

Major theme parks offer deals and packages throughout the year to keep their parks packed with tourists. You can use this to your advantage by booking one of these offers at sites like UndercoverTourist, where they find you the best deals. Remember at parks such as Walt Disney World, the least economical passes are the one-, two-, and three-day passes, and the most economical is the four-day pass, according to MouseSavers, a great Disney planning resource.

Free Discount Cards

Orlando’s tourism site wants you to have a great time during your stay, which is why they offer a free discount card called Magicard. Magicard offers discounts on hotels, restaurants, airboat tours, museums, and more. It’s free, so there is no reason not to take advantage of this card, even if you’re unsure you will need it.

Take Free Transportation

Car rentals only add to vacation costs. Not only will you be paying for a car, but you’ll also be paying for a parking pass at the theme parks. Many hotels offer free shuttles services to the parks. Disney has an entire park-wide tram system. Check with your hotel to find out what they offer. It might be worth paying a little more for a hotel to offset the additional cost of a car rental.

Rent a Vacation Home

Hotel and resort prices are often very high and can require more than one room for a large family. A vacation rental will provide more space and typically lower prices when traveling for a long weekend or a full week. During off-peak travel dates, you can negotiate directly with the owner to bring the price down as well. One drawback is a car rental may be required at a vacation rental, but for many, this offers a great accommodation solution at a discounted price.

Enjoy Orlando for Less

Soaring ticket prices, rising hotel costs, and steep car rental prices might attempt to deter you from a wonderful vacation in Orlando, but don’t let them. Orlando can be done on a budget just by knowing where to look and when to travel. Take advantage of discounts and deals from the theme parks and hotels. With a little research, your trip to Orlando can be affordable and enjoyable for the entire family.
