United is offering 500 free miles for signing up for their mobile shopping platform. Free miles are great but it comes with a small catch. They will send you up to 3 offers a week via text message. Some will earn you bonus miles on your Visa.
Since the texts are targeted this means they you are giving them permission to access your Visa transaction history. They will use this information to better target you with offers. If that is ok with you (and it is with me) then go ahead and sign up for this.
Once you receive the miles in 6-8 weeks simply opt-out. To opt-out simply:
(a) sending a text message with the words “STOP” to 81825 or “STOP” to any text message you may receive from MileagePlus mobile offers (or such other short code that may be used in the future); or (b) visiting https://rtm.visa.com/MileagePlus and unsubscribing your enrolled mobile number.
So you are looking at about 18-24 texts which you can choose to ignore for about 2 months. In return receive 500 miles for very little work. This is worth it to me and its quick and easy to sign-up.
